I can't believe it is our last week in 1st Grade! We have a lot of things going on these last 4 days.
Monday- Game Day (bring a board game) & Science Lab Tuesday- Lemonade Day (wear yellow or pink) & Yearbook Signing (if your child doesn't have a yearbook, we have autograph pages for them) Wednesday- Clean Up and Dance Party! Last Day for backpacks Thursday- Beach Day & Class Party at 11:00 Mrs. Moses' Math Class- Math Assessment on Monday It has been a wonderful year and I have loved being your child's teacher. I learned a lot about you all this week! A lot of you look great for your age; I had no idea some of the moms in our class were in their 80's! Georgia Milestones Testing is almost complete! Georgia Milestones testing continues May 13th-14th, so there will be no visitors in the building, including lunch visitors. Beginning Wednesday, May 15th, lunch visitors and copy helpers will resume. Math Study Guide/Assessment: If your child stays with me for math, our last math assessment is Monday, May 20th. A study guide for 1.2 Math Unit 6 was sent home on Friday. A study guide for 2.1 Math Unit 3 will be sent home on Monday. The study guide is yours to keep and does not need to be returned to school. Last 10 Days of First Grade Countdown: I sent an email with the list of the daily activities for our First Grade Countdown. The students are very excited about this, and I appreciate how you’ve kept the activities a surprise for them. Please continue to do this and only discuss the next day’s activity with your child. This makes the final days of school more fun and exciting for everyone. Thank you! Infinite Campus: In your child's Friday Folder, you will see some information about the new Student Information System program that Fulton County will use next year. On the back page of the packet is a student information paper that needs to be verified by you. If there are any changes, please make the necessary corrections on the paper, sign the paper at the bottom, and return it on Monday. If there are no changes, please sign the form at the bottom and return it on Monday. ****NOTE: There is no place where a signature is needed, but please sign in the empty space at the bottom of the paper. PBIS Reward: Our final PBIS reward of the year is Thursday, May 16th. Students will be given 30 minutes of free time in the classroom. They can draw, use classroom technology, play games, put puzzles together, or just get with friends and talk, they will be able to choose what they’d like to do. Students must have at least 30 Dojo points to participate. Science Lab: The final Science Lab of the year will be Monday, May 20th at 1:00. End of the Year Party: The first grade End of the Year Party is Thursday, May 23rd from 11:00-12:00. The party will take place outdoors, weather permitting. The students are already talking about how excited they are for the party, and I’m sure it will be another fun one! Our room mom sent out an email with information about the party, items to donate, and volunteering. I hope to see you all at the party! Field Day: Field Day is Friday, May 17th, and this is a fun day for all Sweet Apple students. Field Day begins at approximately 8:00 am, and we will go outside and participate in many fun activities. The event ends when all activities have been completed. Fourth Grade Lemonade Stand: Mark your calendars for next Thursday, May 16th as the 4th Grade team hosts its pre-sale for their Lemonade Stand Day scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st. Each year, 4th grade sets up and participates in a Lemonade Stand to raise money for a great cause and this year it is the ALS Association. On Thursday, students may pre-purchase a glass of lemonade for $1.00 each. On the day of the sale, students who pre-paid will receive a ticket(s) that may be exchanged for a glass of lemonade. Here is some important information for the weeks ahead: Georgia Milestones Testing is this week! Georgia Milestones testing resumes May 6th-14th, and we will be back to having no visitors in the building, including lunch visitors and mystery readers, during those dates. Lunch visitors will resume on Wednesday, May 15th. Science Lab: The final Science Lab of the year will be Monday, May 20th. This lab is a fun one that the students will LOVE because we are making our own ice cream! Our class will attend the lab from 1:00-1:45. First, we had special guests from the Teaching Museum who conducted STEM activities with the students. The activities focused on plants and the students enjoyed exploring plant seeds and then “planting” seeds. The students had a great time as they completed challenging but fun activities with their classmates. Your child is bringing a glove of seeds home with them today. They can hang it in the window and watch the seeds sprout. We also had our Spring Swap this afternoon, and the students enjoyed going from classroom to classroom collecting their “loot!” It is so cute to watch the students’ excitement as they see their new “treasures’ and share them with their friends. The first grade teachers all appreciate the support and donations you provide to make all the fun activities possible. Important!!!! No Visitors in the Building again next week: Georgia Milestones Testing for grades 3-5 began this week. The students did an EXCELLENT job of being quiet and courteous in the hallways while their older peers were testing. While students are testing, there are no outside visitors allowed in the building during school hours. This includes lunch visitors, mystery readers, and copy helpers. Milestones testing will continue from April 22nd -25th and again from May 6th-14th. Please refrain from coming to school for lunch during the testing dates. Cereal Boxes: We need 5 more boxes so please send any empty boxes you may have next week. Thanks again for your donations. Library Books Due: All library books are due in the media center by Friday, April 26th. Placement Testing: As we begin to finalize our 2019-2020 class roster considerations, we will be administering the Fulton County Schools (F.C.S.) Diagnostic Placement Assessments. F.C.S. Diagnostic Placement Assessments are given to determine a student’s Continuous Achievement Levels for Reading or Mathematics. In years past, Placement Assessments had been administered to all Sweet Apple Elementary students in Grades K-5. However, after discussing options with the Sweet Apple Leadership Team, it has been decided to make a change in order to reduce the number of on-line assessments for our students. Starting next week, the F.C.S. Diagnostic Placement Assessment will only be administered to Sweet Apple students who meet the recommendations determined by the district. We are going to have a “Spring Swap” and students will go from classroom to classroom and collect small items, much like the trick-or-treating we did in October. Our class has been asked to provide spring erasers for this activity. Please look for a sign up to donate from our Room Mom. Important!!!! Report Cards: Report cards for the 3rd Nine Week Grading Period went home in your child’s Friday Folder. Please sign and date the highlighted line on the envelope and return it to school. The report card inside is yours to keep. Thank you!: Thank you for all the cards the students made me this week. The notes the students wrote were so sweet and they made me feel special. I appreciate your thoughtfulness! PBIS Reward and Spelling Test: Our next PBIS reward is Friday, March 29th and students need 30 Dojo points to participate. The reward is Movie Day, and students will be able to choose from five movies they’d like to watch. Because of the movie and time constraints, we will have our Spelling Test on Thursday next week. No Visitors in the Building: Georgia Milestones Testing for grades 3-5 is quickly approaching. While students are testing, there are no outside visitors allowed in the building during school hours. This includes lunch visitors, mystery readers, and copy helpers. Milestones testing will occur from April 15th-25th and May 6th-14th. We are going to make a box to hold the stories, so we need one cereal box for each child. In anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day, a leprechaun visited our classroom, made a terrible mess, and appeared to escape through the window before we returned from specials. The excitement of the day continued with our PBIS reward. Students were able to mingle in the hallway with the other first grade classes while they enjoyed delicious shamrock shakes. Thank you to everyone that sent in supplies and for helping make this day so much fun! Here is some important information for the weeks ahead: Important! Musical Information: Students have been hard at work practicing for the 1st grade musical, “Weather the Weather.” Our performance for the school is Wednesday morning and we ask that all students wear a blue shirt. Science Lab: Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help in the Science Lab this week. Students planted radish seeds and we will check their growth next week. Half were put in the dark and half were put in the sun. We can't wait to see how they grew! Report Cards: Report cards for the 3rd Nine Week Grading Period will be sent home next Friday, March 22nd. Cereal Boxes: We are beginning our new writing unit on Writing Fiction Stories and by the end of the unit we will have a collection of stories about our made-up characters. We are going to make a box to hold the stories, so we need one cereal box for each child. We are not going to do this activity for a while, but we are going to start collecting boxes to ensure we have enough. Please save your cereal boxes and send them in for use to use. We don't need a Giant box, just regular size boxes will work. Thank you! Save Your Pennies!: The SAE Student Council is partnering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to collect Pennies for Patients. If you are interested in sending in pennies to support this cause, please send them in with your child this week. The collection ends on March 24th. We have a collection box in our classroom.
