- Student Led Conferences: Student Led Conferences are fast approaching on Friday, February 8th. This is the only day that conferences will be held, and we are not able to accommodate requests for different dates. Students will lead this conference and share the progress they have made this year. The conference itself will last for approximately 15 minutes, and there will be additional time following your time slot for your child to show you in our classroom.. - Science Lab: Our next Science Lab will be held on Tuesday, January 29th from 1:00-1:45p.m. We have been having a great time as we learn about magnets in Science, and the students will continue the fun in the lab. They will create a game or toy using magnets. It should be a lot of fun, but once again, we are asking for recyclable items and volunteers. Please send items such as vegetable/soup cans, small water bottles, shoe boxes, tissue boxes, etc. We went over directions for the activity, and students created a plan for their game/toy. Please ask your child what recycled materials he/she needs for the project. Here is the link to sign up if you are willing and able to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094eaaab23a0fc1-first1
- Collection for Writing: We are beginning our Opinion Writing Unit. The Opinion Unit begins to teach students how to express their opinions on paper and support them with reasons. On Monday, the students are judging a collection of items and learning how to write using a process to do this.
We are asking students to bring in a collection of items that they judge and choose the “best” object in the collection. Their collection can be some of their favorite items. These items must fit in a gallon size baggie and be able to be kept at school for at least a week as we continue the Unit.
Please don’t send in any items that are keepsakes or of special value. Please only send 5-10 items. - Family Project: February’s family project is for students to create a Valentine’s Box. A flyer with more information will be in your child’s folder on Monday as well as information about our classroom valentine exchange. Please return your child’s project to school by Wednesday, February 13th.
- PBIS Reward: Our next PBIS reward is Friday, February 1st. Students will have a choice of activities to do. The activities that are planned are fun, and I think this will be an enjoyable reward for the students. Each student must have 30 Dojo points to attend the reward.
- Math Study Guide: Next week we will finish our subtraction unit in math. A study guide is coming home on Wednesday, January 30th. The study guide is yours to keep, and it does not need to be returned to school. Our unit 3B assessment will be on Wednesday, February 6th.
- Spelling Test: Please remember to check your child’s Daily Folder on Monday for a Spelling List. While the words on Friday’s spelling test won’t be exactly like those on the list that is sent home, some will be the same and they will all be centered around the same skill. Please review the words each evening and remember to use the Choice Board that was sent home earlier this month to complete two activities each Thursday for homework to study for the Friday Spelling Test.
