Next week is a very busy week and it will be especially fun because of two special days. Tuesday is the Literacy Fair, and Friday is STEM Day.
STEM Day: STEM Day is Friday, March 1st. We will have a special presentation in the morning and many fun STEM activities throughout the day. One of the activities we will do is an egg drop. Students will work in teams to build a vessel to hold an egg and the vessel will be dropped from the roof. The object is to keep the egg from breaking. Once again we are collecting recycled materials for the day. Please send items such as large and small plastic bottles, milk jugs, plastic containers, toilet paper and paper towel tubes, and cereal or other cardboard boxes. Additionally, if you have any items that could be used as padding for the egg drop vessel (such as feathers, tissue paper, newspaper, etc.), please send those items in as well. The only items we cannot use are bubble wrap, Styrofoam, and peanut butter. We will be making our Egg Drop vessels on Thursday if you can send in items by then. Students will also wear their white shirts over their clothes on Friday. They will feel like “real” scientists as they wear special shirts! If you did not send one in to our Room Mom already, please see Friday's SLICE email to see how to make one yourself at home.
Literacy Fair: We are excited about the Literacy Fair on Tuesday, February 26th. Students will complete different rotations in the morning. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this event, and thank you to the parents who are volunteering!
Spelling Test: Because of STEM Day on Friday, we will have our Spelling Test on Thursday, February 28th.
PBIS Reward: Our next PBIS reward is Thursday, February 28th. Because Game Day was such a popular event for the students, we have decided to have another Game Day. Students may bring a non-electronic game to play during the day on Thursday. Please make sure that the game your child brings will fit in his/her backpack.
Jump Rope for Heart/Kids Heart Challenge: Please remember to register online for the Kids Heart Challenge. Here is the link to register: http://www2.heart.org/goto/sweetapple. Don’t forget that the classroom with the MOST students registered will earn an Amazon gift card!
