Report Cards: Report cards and Progress Skills Checklists were sent home in the Friday Folder. The report card and Progress Skills Checklist are yours to keep, but the envelope needs to be signed in TWO places and returned to school. I highlighted spaces where you need to sign. Both are on the front of the envelope, and the first one says “Fall Progress Skills Checklist Parent or Guardian’s Signature,” and the second space says, “1st Nine Weeks Report Card Parent or Guardian’s Signature.” Thank you! 😊
Friday Books: Each Friday, I will send home the leveled book your child has been reading all week in our Guided Reading groups. I am also sending discussion cards that go along with the book so you can have some comprehension conversations about the book at home. I ask the students to put this in the homework part of the folder but it is not something that needs to be sent back to school or done over the weekend. Just at some point, ask your child to read you his/her book and then use the discussion cards to talk about what they read. Thanks so much for your support with this at home.
Math Study Guide and Assessment: We have finished Unit Two in Math, and students will receive a study guide on Monday to complete at home. The study guide does NOT have to be returned to school. It is a resource for you to use to help your child prepare for the upcoming assessment. The Unit Two Assessment will be Tuesday, October 30th.
STEM Day: We are having a STEM Day on Friday, November 9th. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We will do some fun activities that will require students to think and develop a plan. To do the activities, we need any size index cards, paper towel rolls, and toilet paper rolls. Please send your empty toilet paper and paper towel tubes to school anytime up to 11/9, and if you’d like to donate any index cards, you can send those anytime, as well.
PBIS Reward: Our next PBIS reward is on Friday, October 26th, and the students are REALLY excited for it! They are going to go trick or treating in the first grade hall and collect some candy and other non-edible items. To participate in the reward, students will need to have 35 points. Thank you so much for signing up to donate Halloween pencils for this fun activity!
Science Lab: Our next Science Lab will be held on Monday, October 29th from 11:00-11:45 a.m. We have been learning about sound in Science, and the students will create musical instruments using recycled materials when we go to the lab. It should be a lot of fun, but volunteers are needed! As I write this email, two people have volunteered to help, and there are four slots remaining. Here is the link to sign up if you are willing and able to volunteer:

Field Trip: Our field trip is fast approaching! On Wednesday, October 31st, we are going to the Roswell Cultural Arts Center to see a Junie B. Jones play. The time of the performance is 10:00, so we will leave Sweet Apple in plenty of time to arrive at the play. When we return to school, students will eat their lunches.
Halloween: Please remember, students do NOT wear costumes to school on Halloween. I've had several students ask and wanted to send a reminder. The teachers will be dressing up so they can look forward to seeing all the teachers dressed as book characters.
