Today was a fun day to be a first grader! First, we had special guests from the Teaching Museum who conducted STEM activities with the students. The activities focused on plants and the students enjoyed exploring plant seeds and then “planting” seeds. The students had a great time as they completed challenging but fun activities with their classmates. Your child is bringing a glove of seeds home with them today. They can hang it in the window and watch the seeds sprout. We also had our Spring Swap this afternoon, and the students enjoyed going from classroom to classroom collecting their “loot!” It is so cute to watch the students’ excitement as they see their new “treasures’ and share them with their friends. The first grade teachers all appreciate the support and donations you provide to make all the fun activities possible.
Important!!!! No Visitors in the Building again next week: Georgia Milestones Testing for grades 3-5 began this week. The students did an EXCELLENT job of being quiet and courteous in the hallways while their older peers were testing. While students are testing, there are no outside visitors allowed in the building during school hours. This includes lunch visitors, mystery readers, and copy helpers. Milestones testing will continue from April 22nd -25th and again from May 6th-14th. Please refrain from coming to school for lunch during the testing dates.
Cereal Boxes: We need 5 more boxes so please send any empty boxes you may have next week. Thanks again for your donations.
Library Books Due: All library books are due in the media center by Friday, April 26th.
Placement Testing: As we begin to finalize our 2019-2020 class roster considerations, we will be administering the Fulton County Schools (F.C.S.) Diagnostic Placement Assessments. F.C.S. Diagnostic Placement Assessments are given to determine a student’s Continuous Achievement Levels for Reading or Mathematics. In years past, Placement Assessments had been administered to all Sweet Apple Elementary students in Grades K-5. However, after discussing options with the Sweet Apple Leadership Team, it has been decided to make a change in order to reduce the number of on-line assessments for our students. Starting next week, the F.C.S. Diagnostic Placement Assessment will only be administered to Sweet Apple students who meet the recommendations determined by the district. The recommendations include:
